Armagetron
- added 8 September, 2000
If
you've ever seen the Disney move Tron from 1982, you'll certainly
recognize the lightcycles of Armagetron. In Armagetron you ride
a lightcycle, which is a kind of motorbike that can only turn 90
degrees at a time, leaves a wall behind it and cannot be stopped.
You must avoid hitting the walls while trying to fool your opponents
into crashing into your wall.
There are quite a lot of Tron-based games available, but this one
has one major difference which really allows for some interesting
tactics. Because unlike in other Tron-games, you can accelerate.
To do this, you must ride very close to a wall.
Armagetron have some of the best 3D-graphics we've seen in a freeware
game. If you have a reasonably fast machine with a decent 3D-card
it simply looks fantastic with all the 3D-effects enabled. The sound
of your lightcycle is also well-made.
Armagetron is a fun game in single-player mode, but it's in the
split-screen multiplayer mode that it really becomes superb.
It's one of the most fun and thrilling multiplayer games out
there. You can play four players on the same computer, and
it's network capabilities let you connect up to 17 computers.
